The way I got into OFF was uh... kinda strange? I saw this post back in like... 2021 and then managed to make an entire OC inspired by the Batter because of it. It wasn't until March of 2024 that I realised that I should probably actually, y'know, play the game. So I did, and it ended up becoming one of my favourite games of all time.

I originally played the English 3.0 translation, and I was immediately drawn in by the atmosphere - uncanny and dreamlike. Playing it with some modicum of blindness to the story was such a treat. (I had read a fic a friend of mine wrote about month earlier, so I knew roughly what happened in the Room, but even then!) The game and its characters very quickly became important to me, especially the cats. The main reason I bought the collector's edition of the remaster was because they were in the prequel comic that it comes with.

(But, if you don't have/want to shell out the money for it, here's a scan someone else did of their own copy.)

My favourite Zone of the lot is Zone 2, for a lot of reasons - the story that takes place there, the locations within hitting notes of comfort while still maintaining that sense of strangeness the rest of the game carries, and it's home to my favourite overworld track from the original version's soundtrack, A Stab of Happiness!
