Spybot Info - Physical Characteristics

The Spybots were built with a special purpose in mind: to blend in with and spy on Toons. Using Version 2.0 Cogs as a basis, Cogs Inc. has created six official Spybots - four as part of the Launch batch, and two Revised models following the disappearance of Spy-Bossbot Cap'n Octavia Dynogadget (better known to Cog Nation as 1AM) and the destruction of Spy-Cashbot 11PM.

Appearance

In Cog form, Spybots appear very similar to a regular Cog of their build. While their bodies appear identical to their peers', their heads are tinted a different colour. Launch Spybots have purple-tinted heads, and Revised Spybots have red-tinted heads. Some traits of their Toon forms may be present in Cog form due to certain parts having shared use between forms or being attached to a core part of the Cog's shell.

In Toon form, Spybots are much more vibrantly coloured in order to blend in properly with Toons. Heads are purple for the Launch Spybots and red for the Revised Spybots, but the body and legs can be any colour. In order to try and offset the inherent silly nature of being a Toon, all parts of the shell modelled as clothing are given somewhat duller colours. These colours are purple for the Launch Spybots and red for the Revised Spybots. The health/department indicator on their chest will automatically enter health mode when in Toon form, and an elastic cover modelled after a Laff Meter will be fastened over it.

Pupils are small and lack the triangular eye shines that Toons have. Additionally, the number of digits on each hand stays at five as opposed to dropping to a Toon's four. Despite the best efforts of the prototype building team, movement in Toon form is just as stiff as it is in Cog form.

Internal Components and Transformation Mechanics

Like regular Cogs, all Spybots have small crevices at the base of their necks to allow silliness to exit internal systems. Internal fans can assist in driving out silliness, but usually simply spread out silliness and lessens its effects on Cog circuitry. Additionally, silliness can be removed by opening up the shell and using a special gas to expell silliness and sanitize internal systems.

Unlike regular Cogs, the shell of a Spybot is made out of many plates that can flip over. These plates are similar to the plates of a Version 2.0 Cog, but are smaller in size to allow for more accurate details in Toon form. These plates are a key component in the transformation mechanics of a Spybot, as it allows them to change between forms. Internal systems and the skeleton are modified in order to accomodate space for muzzles, ears and tails when applicable. The face plates also have the capability of absorbing the healing effects of Toon-Up gags, but also absorbs the silliness of them as well. As such, they are thinner than the rest of the shell's plates, which are considerably thicker in order to stop an even higher amount of gag resistance. With these thicker body plates, gag damage is accumulative - it would take anywhere between two to ten of a gag to cause any amount of damage, depending on gag strength and number of Toons present.

Spybots change between forms by twisting their health/department indicator, but specifics vary between forms. In Cog form, the indicator is twisted to bring it forward slightly and allow the elastic Laff Meter cover to be slipped on. Transformation into Toon form begins when the weight sensors within the indicator feel the elastic cover secured. In Toon form, the elastic Laff Meter cover is twisted off. The health indicator will be twisted back into its usual position during the transformation into Cog form.

The head, hands and feet, will retract into the shell as their plating flips over. The transformation process is swift, but noisy. Revised Spybots aren't quite as loud while transforming, but both they and Launch Spybots must transform in a quiet area to avoid giving away their position.

While the technology used to create the Spybots is based off Version 2.0 Cogs, they are not Version 2.0 Cogs themselves. If a Spybot has a silliness overload in their systems, they will explode and be destroyed like a regular Cog.

Health and Battling

All Spybots are Level 9, and accordingly have 110 health. Health is reduced in Toon form due to the inherent silliness of it, and as such have 100 health. Each Spybot is given a gag bag containing six gag tracks for use in Toon form. All gags are issued from stolen gag stocks.

While Toon-Up gags do heal Spybots, the effect is significantly weaker. The full effect of a Toon-Up gag on a Spybot is only slightly higher than an ineffective Toon-Up on a Toon. A minor fix to this issue has been added to the Revised Spybots, who are healed a little more than Launch Spybots by a Toon-Up gag.
