Summaries for hopefully what will be all of Yo-kai Watch Shadowside! Need refreshing on certain events but your internet is going slow as a Snailspace? I've got you covered! Interested in Shadowside but not sure if it's right for you? Well let me tell you a bit about it! You saw the Lightside of the Yo-kai in episode 4 and now you never ever want to watch the anime? Fair enough reaction, I'll tell you about the rest! These summaries are bound to be biased on the side of me liking it, but I'll try to keep it minimal during the actual summaries.

About Yo-kai Watch Shadowside

Yo-kai Watch Shadowside is a sorta spin-off of the original Yo-kai Watch series. I say sorta because it's canon to the timeline. The Shadowside story begins with the fourth movie, Return of the Oni King, and is continued in the 49-episode anime series. Unlike the original anime series (and the two reboots of that same series but that's a whole other can of worms), episodes of the Shadowside anime aren't comprised of a handful of segments. Instead, each episode has its own story playing out for the full 20-or-so minute runtime! It's mostly a Yo-kai of the week-type of deal, but there's also an overarching story that comes into play every now and then.

In the English-speaking fanbase, Shadowside is quite the base-breaker. It seems that everyone either loves it or hates it: those who don't like it calling it "darker and edgier". Regardless of whether that may or may not be true, I enjoy it! I like the characters (though some could have certainly been written better if the writers didn't have their heads in the gutters), the designs and its ability to be both dark and goofy! And I want to share some of the care I have for Shadowside here!
